Sebi starts attaching assets of defaulters

Market regulator has issued 10 separate orders against non-payment of dues worth over Rs4.25 crore.

Mumbai: Armed with new powers, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has initiated the process of attaching and selling securities held by entities that have failed to pay penalties imposed by the regulator.

Over the past fortnight, the capital market regulator has passed over 10 separate orders, allowing the recovery officer to sell securities held by the defaulters.

These are the first instances of Sebi moving beyond the attachment of movable properties.

The manager of a company which had allegedly duped around 300 investors to the tune of Rs six crore by luring them to invest into ponzi schemes on the pretext of double profit has been arrested.

Sukhdev Singh alias Sukha, who was wanted in a cheating case and had a cash reward of Rs 20,000 on his head, was arrested by a Crime Branch team from Dwarka Sector-14 Metro Station on November 1 following a tip off, police said today.

"In 2008, one Narender Satoha and his wife Anita had raised a company in the name of Almandine Marketing Pvt Ltd which had its office at Kakrola Mod, Delhi. The accused Sukhdev was the manager and networking head of the company. The company had floated ponzi schemes with the assurance to double the money invested with the company in six months," said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Ravindra Yadav.

Councillor should work from home

I HAD the honour of representing all or large parts of the council ward now called 'Moor View'. For more than two decades I never had nor needed, a 'private' office within the Civic Centre. So I am somewhat concerned of the bizarre claims of Councillor Casey that she is being refused the use of a room to do her job.

There is, or should be, a general purpose room called surprisingly, the members' room, where elected members can sit down in relative quiet if they have urgent material to read.

It was in my day, also used for a large number of meetings, mainly during the evening. Both the leader of the council and the shadow leader, need office resources and most likely get them.
